Founded by California Broker Sheri Matigan, Stuga Properties was inspired by a love for the enchanted cottages of Carmel and Laguna Beach, and a fascination with the fairytale quaintness of Swedish Stuga cottages.

Our mission is twofold:

• First is to renovate and preserve California's cottage homes while bringing them up to date with ecologically friendly building materials, techniques, and systems.
• Second is to provide new homes that incorporate the best of both worlds.

Why cottages?

The average home size has increased more than 138% since the 1950's, and has more than quadrupled for the affluent. In the early 1900's, a 2,200 square foot family home was the mark of prosperity. By the year 2000, it was not unusual to find just two people living in a 6,000 square foot home.

Now the tide has turned. Not only has there been a backlash against that kind of conspicuous consumption, homeowners have become weary of the disadvantages of owning and maintaining what have become known as "McMansions."

About Our Broker - Sheri Matigan

Sheri began her association with real estate as a title officer 26 years ago. Her fascination grew, and she has been investing in California real estate since 2002. She enjoys finding the perfect lot and building from scratch, but her true passion lies in taking a home that has been ignored, abused, or misused and turning it into an energy efficient work of art.

Licensed in 2006, she went on to obtain a Master's degree in Real Estate and Construction Management before becoming a broker in 2014.
